Susanville’s City Council will for a second time address the city’s general fund deficit that if not resolved will force cuts to the police and fire departments. With the expected increase of expenses that are outpacing revenue, the city will be unable to support these public services by next year. For now the departments are safe from cuts with the help of COVID relief funds from the American Rescue Plan Act. This evening’s city council meeting will have a review of the second draft of the expenditure reduction plan that is a three phase plan. Phase one has already been implemented as of December of last year with the combination of two existing vacant positions into one, saving the city 65,000 dollars annually. The council meets at City Hall at 5pm. You can attend virtually on the City’s Administrative Website or in-person.
