Susanville Fire needs to replace the department’s wildland fire engine and asks the City Council for a 40,000 budget to buy a surplus engine. The 1991 type III engine the department currently uses according to Fire chief Moore is at the end of its serviceable life, has continuous repairs, and the department can no longer get replacement parts. The crew cab also no longer meets the safety and comfort standards of the crew. The fire department currently has funds available in their facilities and equipment reserve fund and will ask the city council during their regular meeting tomorrow for a budget of $40,000 to purchase the vehicle. After which the department will surplus the old wildland engine and return any excess funds from the sale back to the reserve fund. The request will be made tomorrow at City Hall, the council meets at 5 pm.
