Fire crews continue to make progress on the Rocky Fire burning south of Delta Lake in Modoc County.

According to CAL FIRE, the wildfire has grown to 298 acres and is now 30 percent contained. The fire was first reported on the morning of June 23 and remains under investigation.

The fire is burning in a remote area south of Delta Lake under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Land Management. Firefighters have been working to strengthen containment lines and patrol for hotspots as suppression efforts continue. CAL FIRE reported no change in acreage or containment during the latest update issued Thursday morning.

Containment at 30 percent means firefighters have established control lines around roughly one-third of the fire’s perimeter, while the remaining portions of the fire are still being monitored and secured. Officials emphasize that a fire can continue to burn within containment lines even after containment percentages increase.

No structures have been reported threatened or damaged, and no evacuations have been announced as of the latest update. Fire officials continue to monitor conditions and investigate the cause of the wildfire.

The Rocky Fire is currently one of several active wildfires being tracked across California and remains the largest active incident in Modoc County.
