Plumas Ntl Forest Service Seeks New Concessionaire

Over the summer, Plumas National Forest faced challenges with its recreational sites when Outdoors in Plumas, the former concessionaire responsible for managing many of these sites, withdrew from its duties. Now, the Forest Service is actively seeking a new concessionaire to prevent similar delays in the upcoming season. This will be a three-year million-dollar opportunity for the right applicant.

As of September 1, a pre-call for the upcoming concession opportunity was opened, and as of late next month, a site tour will be held ahead of the official publication for those interested in submitting proposals.

The concession opportunity is for recreation facilities on the Beckwourth and Mount Hough ranger districts. This includes 40 campgrounds, group campgrounds, boat launches, and day-use sites, such as Frenchman, Antelope, and Lake Davis.

Detailed information on this business opportunity, the Forest Service concessionaire program and policies, the special use permit, the application process, and post-selection requirements will be available in the prospectus, expected to be available in October. The FS says “It is expected for a permit to be issued and operations to begin by May 1, 2024, with a permit term initially for 5 years.”

The Forest will host a site tour on October 24 and 25, 2023. You can RSVP to the PNF Recreation and Lands Program Manager at (530) 283-7798 or by email no later than October 2 if you plan to attend the site tour. There will also be a question-answer session at the Plumas National Forest Supervisor’s Office located in Quincy as part of the site tour.
