As hot, dry weather continues to elevate wildfire danger across California, the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is strategically moving firefighting resources to areas facing the greatest risk.
Earlier this week, additional engines and water tenders were prepositioned in Plumas and Sierra counties to strengthen local response capabilities through July 15. As fire weather concerns shifted south, those resources have since been reassigned, with firefighters and equipment now staged in Ventura, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles counties through July 17.
State officials say prepositioning resources before periods of critical fire weather allows crews to respond more quickly to new fires and improve the chances of keeping small incidents from becoming large wildfires.
Cal OES said the deployments come as much of the state experiences hot temperatures, low humidity and increasingly dry vegetation. Residents are encouraged to avoid activities that could spark a wildfire, have evacuation plans in place and stay informed as fire conditions change.
