The U.S. Forest Service will enforce fire restrictions on Modoc National Forest starting at midnight on Thursday, July 23, 2026. These rules aim to reduce human-caused wildfires, protect natural areas, and keep visitors and staff safe.
Lightning causes most forest fires, but human actions also spark many fires. Activities like campfires, fireworks, driving vehicles, mowing lawns, and power lines can ignite wildfires.
Forest Supervisor Chris Bielecki said, “We thank our visitors for following these restrictions. The order will stay in place until October 31. If fall rains arrive early, we may lift the restrictions sooner to support hunting season.”
