As temperatures cool and the trees start to show signs of fall, Plumas National Forest is beginning to wind down its summer recreation season. The Feather River, Mount Hough, and Beckwourth Ranger Districts are preparing to winterize and close various sites.
In the Feather River Ranger District, Sly and Strawberry Reservoir campgrounds are closed for maintenance, while Golden Trout Campground remains open until snow limits access. Little Grass Valley Reservoir’s Red Feather, Little Beaver, and Running Deer campgrounds closed on September 9, with others expected to close by mid-October.
On Mount Hough Ranger District, several campgrounds, including Queen Lily and Gansner Bar, will close soon, but North Fork Campground and some Antelope Lake sites will remain open until September 29. Bucks Lake area campgrounds will stay open until early to mid-October, with Scan and Pay options available at select locations through Recreation.gov.
Beckwourth Ranger District sites are mainly open until October 1, with select areas at Frenchman Lake, Lake Davis, and Gold Lake accessible until October 15. Gold Lake Campground now operates on a first-come, first-served basis, while Gold Lake 4×4 Camp requires reservations.
The forest is under Stage 2 Fire Restrictions, allowing campfires only in designated areas with established rings. Visitors should remain cautious with any potential fire hazards as conditions remain dry.
