The BLM Alturas field office will begin the Hogback broadcast burn project near Fall River Mills today and tomorrow.

The burn project is four miles south of the community and is planned to cover 650 acres. Smoke will be visible from Fall River Mills, the Burney Basin, and State Route 299, primarily on ignition days. The BLM says you can expect to see smoke linger for several days once the burn is completed.

Meanwhile, firefighters in the Plumas National Forest will resume prescribed burning operations.
On the Feather River Ranger District, the Grass Flat Project operations near La Porte resume today. This will occur on the north side of Little Grass Valley Reservoir. Around 238 acres are planned for treatment.

As a result of this project, the trail along the lake between Black Rock and Horse Camp campgrounds will be closed. You are asked to avoid the area despite the roads remaining open.
Firefighters will also be preparing for possible prescribed burning operations on the Big Hill Project near Cromberg and Sloat, east of Quincy, starting tomorrow and continuing through Monday. This will treat around 300 acres.

On the Mount Hough Ranger District, mop-up and patrol are continuing on the Butterfly Valley Prescribed Burn Project that occurred last weekend. Approximately 110 acres were successfully treated, with many units bordering private property.

If weather conditions become unfavorable, including increased or gusty winds in the area, burning will stop until conditions improve. Firefighters will be monitoring conditions throughout operations.
