If you’re planning to travel Highway 89 through the Hat Creek area over the next several weeks, be prepared for some delays.

Caltrans is restarting a bridge maintenance project on Sunday that includes repairs to three bridges along Highway 89, including two Hat Creek bridges and the Cayton Creek Bridge north of Burney Falls.

Beginning Monday, crews will be working weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with one-way traffic control in place at each work zone. Drivers should expect delays of up to six minutes while crews complete the repairs.

The affected bridges are located about four miles north of Old Station, about one mile south of Cassel Road, and roughly three-and-a-half miles north of Burney Falls State Park.

The work is part of a larger bridge maintenance project across Shasta County, but the Highway 89 repairs are expected to have the greatest impact for local travelers heading to or from Hat Creek, Old Station, Burney, Lassen Volcanic National Park, and other popular summer recreation destinations.

Caltrans says the project is expected to continue through mid-August. Motorists are encouraged to slow down in construction zones, watch for workers and equipment, and allow a little extra travel time when using Highway 89.
