A new sign will soon greet travelers in the city of Susanville. With the help of Caltrans, who secured Clean California grant funding, the city will complete design work on a monument that will read “Welcome to Susanville” in block letters with preliminary design elements, including the city seal alongside the Susanville Indian Rancheria seal and a saw blade.
The original design has cedar boards as the backdrop held up by two concrete pillars. Slight modifications may be made by the approval of the council as some found the current design too busy. New landscaping will also surround the monument.
The new sign will be featured in a new location on Main Street from the existing sign on the Walgreens intersection. The new sign will most likely lead to the removal of the existing sign ; however, the city has no plans for its removal at this time.
This project will join the South East Gateway Project, funded through Caltrans, to enhance the entrance to the city. Work is expected to be completed on the monument by this summer.
