Portola City Council is set to have an election for two four-year term seats come November. The seats are currently held by Council members Phil Oels and Bill Powers. As of July 18th the nomination period for the seats opened and will close by August 12th. There are 5 council members elected serving staggered four year term seats that come up for election on even numbered years. During the transitions the council also selects a Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem from among the council, and is limited to a one year term. Portola, on the November ballot will also be voting for a four year term for the positions of city clerk and city treasurer. Voters in the city of Susanville and Lassen County will also potentially see measures come November with discussions continuing on the legalization of the cannabis industry both within City and County limits, in addition to the race for Lassen County’s District 5 Supervisor between Tom Traphagen and Jason Ingram, who nearly matched votes in the June 7th Primary but lacked pushing past the 50% threshold to secure the seat.
You can also expect a lighter proposition packed ballot. Due to last minute legislative deals and failed signature verification efforts only 7 propositions have made it to November. You can expect to vote on statewide measures on abortion safeguards, tribal casino sports wagering, online sports wagering, arts and music funding, dialysis clinic staffing requirements, millionare’s tax for Evs, and upholds on the flavored tobacco ban.
