CHP Busts Street Racing Duo Near Portola, One Also Charged with DUI

A high-speed driving incident on Highway A15 resulted in multiple arrests after a California Highway Patrol officer observed what officials are calling a “speed contest” involving a motorcycle and a BMW traveling at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred while an officer was on patrol and observed both vehicles passing his location at a high rate of speed while heading toward Portola.

Officials say the two drivers were engaged in a speed contest and were arrested for reckless driving and participating in a speed contest. Both vehicles were also impounded for 30 days.

CHP added that one of the drivers was additionally found to be under the influence of a controlled substance and was charged with driving under the influence.

Authorities emphasized the extreme dangers of reckless driving, speed contests, and impaired driving, noting that conditions on the roadway can change in an instant with potentially devastating consequences.

The CHP is reminding motorists to drive responsibly and help keep local highways safe.
