Council leadership will look familiar in Susanville for this next term.

The Susanville City Council voted Wednesday to reappoint Mendy Schuster as mayor, giving her a second consecutive term leading the council. Dawn Miller was also selected to serve as mayor pro tem.

The appointments came during a special meeting at City Hall, where the council briefly considered other members for the mayor’s position before ultimately voting to keep Schuster in the role.

The meeting also included the swearing-in of Schuster and newly elected Councilmember Gerry Hibbitts, who officially began their new four-year terms after winning seats in June’s primary election. Incumbent Councilmember Russ Brown finished third in the race, where only the top two candidates were elected.

Hibbitts took the oath of office before a standing-room-only crowd of supporters gathered at City Hall. Schuster was also sworn in to begin her new council term before being selected by her fellow councilmembers to continue serving as mayor.
