Greenville will have to wait longer for the anticipated Clean California Greenville Landscaping Project, with construction set to begin on August 7, initially planned to begin two weeks ago. The project aims to revitalize the downtown segment of State Route 89 devastated by the 2021 Dixie Fire.
The near $600,000 project, funded by Governor Newsom’s Clean California program, will replant trees and shrubs and install irrigation to restore the once-thriving community. As the Dixie Fire scorched nearly 75% of homes and businesses, leaving the town barren, the project has been touted as essential for Greenville’s rebirth.
Caltrans District 2 Director, Dave Moore, worked to ensure Greenville’s reconstruction became a priority by obtaining a Director’s Order in 2021, expediting the emergency work, stating The Landscaping Project will bring more color and life to the streets of Greenville by replacing some of the trees and plants that were lost.”
The project is now expected to be completed by the end of August and will not bring any additional traffic delays. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will honor the community’s resilience once the project has been completed as a symbol of the first step towards restoring Greenville’s vibrant spirit.
