Smoke brings concerns to the region but local sheriff’s departments and the U.S. Forest Service issue a message that there are no local fires. The smoke the region is experiencing is confirmed by the National Weather Service to be drifting from the rapidly growing Oak Fire burning just outside of Yosemite National Park in Mariposa County. The fire, as of late-night reports, is over 16000 acres with no containment. Smoke will continue to impact the area as fire crews continue battling the blaze that has forced thousands to evacuate the area and destroyed several homes. Air quality monitors reach moderate levels, unhealthy for sensitive groups.
