Firefighters continue to make steady progress on several Lassen County fires, according to an update from CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit Incident Commander Joe Walton.

The Pit Fire has reached 95 percent containment and is holding at 1,055 acres. Crews are continuing to strengthen containment lines, with remaining work focused on steep, rugged terrain within the Pit River drainage.

Walton said firefighters are also making good progress on the Loomis Fire, the larger of two nearby fires. Both incidents have been staffed around the clock, and containment efforts are holding well.

In addition to the larger fires, recent lightning storms sparked several new fire starts across the area. Walton reported that firefighting resources were able to quickly respond and knock down those fires before they could grow.

With hot, dry conditions continuing across the region, fire officials remain vigilant as crews work to secure existing fires and respond to any new lightning-caused ignitions.
