Emergency medical services in Lassen County are entering a new chapter as oversight of ambulance operations shifts to a new regional organization aimed at improving coordination across two counties.
Beginning July 1, Sierra Regional EMS, operating under the direction of Plumas District Hospital, officially assumes responsibility for air and ground ambulance service operations in Lassen County.
For residents who call 911 during a medical emergency, officials say the transition should be seamless. The same emergency medical services staff who have served Lassen County for the past 21 years have been retained, ensuring experienced paramedics and EMTs remain on the job while the organization transitions to its new regional structure.
The change is designed to create a more coordinated emergency response system between Lassen and Plumas counties by bringing resources and planning under a single regional partnership.
Hospital officials say the goal is to strengthen long-term emergency medical services by improving collaboration among regional healthcare providers while maintaining reliable ambulance coverage throughout the area.
The agency says the transition is about more than a name change. Sierra Regional EMS is intended to provide a sustainable model for delivering emergency medical care across the region while preserving the local knowledge and experience of the existing EMS workforce.
Residents may notice the new Sierra Regional EMS name on social media and other public communications beginning this week. The agency says all previous SEMSA social media accounts will continue to operate under the new name as the transition moves forward.
