In honor of Women’s History Month, Plumas County Tourism (PCT) has posted its annual series, Women Who Shaped Plumas County, recognizing remarkable women who made a lasting impact on the region.

“PCT has been sharing these stories for the past three years, and we are pleased to continue highlighting the lives of these remarkable women,” says Sharon Roberts, PCT executive director. “Each of them showed strength, resilience, and dedication to their passions, leaving a lasting mark on Plumas County.”

This year’s stories spotlight Lotta Crabtree, a mining-town showgirl who went on to the stages of New York and London; Elizabeth Stark Blakesley, whose name lives on in the historic and bustling mining town of Elizabethtown; and Cecelia Chamberlain, known as the “Lady Bank-Teller,” who helped keep Indian Valley Bank open during the Great Depression.

From politicos and scientists to master basket weavers—many nationally recognized—PCT applauds these women who helped shape our rich history.
