The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is inviting off-highway vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts and stakeholders to participate in a virtual public meeting focused on the use of California State Parks Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division grant funding. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 18th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. via Zoom.
The session will be divided into three segments, each dedicated to one of the Northern California District’s field offices: Eagle Lake, Redding, and Arcata. Representatives from each office will outline their OHV programs and discuss their grant requests to the state of California.
BLM Northern California District Manager, Dereck Wilson, emphasized the importance of community input, stating, “We appreciate hearing suggestions from those who enjoy off-highway vehicle sports on public lands.”
The BLM is currently preparing applications for the 2025 grant cycle, with public comments considered most beneficial if submitted before the March 3rd deadline. Interested parties can register to participate in the meeting. Upon registration, participants will receive a confirmation email with details on how to join. Attendees have the option to engage in the entire session or select specific field office discussions:
- Eagle Lake Field Office (Susanville): 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
- Redding Field Office: 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.
- Arcata Field Office: 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The BLM encourages public and OHV partner organization contributions to help identify new trails and redesign existing routes for improved connectivity, safety, and accessibility.
Following the submission of proposals to the state, the public can review and comment on preliminary applications from March 4th to May 5th by visiting the grants section at https://ohv.parks.ca.gov or by sending written feedback to the respective field offices via mail or email:

The California State Parks Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division supports OHV recreation through funds derived from gas taxes, entrance fees, and vehicle registrations. For more information on the grant program and past allocations, interested individuals are encouraged to visit the official website.
In Northern California, the BLM manages several OHV recreation areas, including Fort Sage and Rice Canyon in Lassen County, Chappie-Shasta in Shasta County, and the Samoa Dunes in Humboldt County. The agency also permits OHV use on designated roads and trails across wildlands, working closely with communities to ensure sustainable recreational opportunities.
