QUINCY–Facing elimination in the 3C2A NorCal Super Regional, Feather River was just six outs away from staying in the hunt against Sierra College on Friday afternoon at the Eagles Nest.
Leading 5-3, the Golden Eagles watched the Wolverines storm back to steal a 16-7 win, ending Feather River’s postseason run. FRC concludes another successful year with a 33-12 overall record.
Today, the home team built a 5-3 lead that held through seven innings. FRC jumped on their visitors with three runs in the first on RBI-singles by Kory Chu, Kolt Kurzman and Grant McGuire, and then added two more runs in the third on a two-run base hit by Grant McGuire.
But things came unraveled in the eighth. The Wolverines paraded 13 batters to the plate and scored seven times, and they added on with six runs in the ninth with 12 batters doing damage. In all, Feather River sent 11 pitchers to the mound to try and curb Sierra’s offensive production.
Feather got two runs back in the eighth on Dylan Marx‘s home run and a RBI-single by Kurzman, but that would be it. The Golden Eagles had 14 hits on the day, three by Marx and four by McGuire, while Chu and Kurzman had two each.
Nonetheless, it was another highly successful baseball season for the Golden Valley Conference champions, who won their 15th title in the last 18 seasons
