The 12th annual Groundhog Fever Festival in Quincy is set to kick off at 11 a.m. on February 1st at the Plumas County Courthouse. Organized by the Quincy Chamber of Commerce, the event will feature Chuck Wood, the local groundhog, who will deliver the long-range weather forecast.

The festival will include a range of mini-contests such as the Whipped Cream Wrangle, Crazy Hair Contest, The Bach, Flip Cup Fight, and the Thumb Wrestle Tussle, the latter being exclusively for children.

In the Kid Zone, Quercus will return, thanks to sponsorship from local businesses. The zone will offer circus activities, including a cotton candy machine, popcorn, face painting, balloon animals, and flow arts. Additionally, the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship will run a minibike course suitable for all ages.

The Chili Cook-off will have a limited number of tasting tickets available, allowing attendees and judges to vote for winners in the People’s Choice, Judge’s Choice, and Best-Dressed Booth categories. Chili tasting tickets are priced at $10 and tend to sell out quickly. Beer and wine tickets will also be available for $6 each, with a valid ID required.

Vendors will display handmade arts and crafts for those interested in shopping for unique items.
