At approximately 11am October 14, SAR received a page for a 40-year-old male who had been crushed by a boulder that pinned him to an excavator. His arm and leg were broken and bleeding. The victim was located in a remote area near a power line off Rush Creek Rd. in the Feather River Canyon, but was with other workers, who were able to transport him to a site suitable for an air-medical helicopter to land.
sierra regional EMs and care flight official units provided initial medical care for the victim, who was transported to advanced care by helicopter.
SAR is grateful for the assistance of other agencies and the individuals involved, who kept focused on what could be done despite the remote location and longer response time of emergency services.
Extensive fire scar means higher danger of erosion and falling rocks, especially going into the wetter seasons. Please be cautious driving and recreating in areas that may be loosened by fire and erosion.
