This Saturday, the iconic building at the top of Main Street in Susanville will usher in its centennial celebration by inviting the community to an open house.
The Elks Lodge, perfectly poised at the end of Main Street in Uptown, was formed in 1924 and deeded to them in 1931, according to the Elks Lodge Foundation. It currently boasts 165 members. Isaac Roop, a town founder, originally owned the building. However, throughout the years, it has passed through several owners.
Although this Saturday does not mark the Elks Lodge’s true 100th, it celebrated its anniversary on May 24th.
The building is in some disrepair, but efforts are underway to bring the historic building to life once more and remain an icon of the Suanvile community. This includes the lodge seeking funds from COVID relief monies the city is awaiting allocation and its members pulling from their pockets to restore the century-old building.
This Saturday, you can help by joining in the festivities, including lunch, dessert, a no-host bar, and a basket auction. Proceeds from the celebration will go towards beautifying and repairing the lodge. A town hall Q&A will follow the festivities at 4 p.m. The event kicks off at 2 p.m.
