Stockade Canyon Fire Incident Update July 26, 2024

The Stockade Canyon Fire, ignited by lightning on July 23, 2024, is currently burning approximately 19 miles northwest of Gerlach, Nevada. The fire is being managed by the Bureau of Land Management, Winnemucca District.

Current Fire Behavior: Active with wind-driven runs, uphill runs, and torching.

Historic structures and corrals are at risk.
The fire is burning in brush and timber.

The fire is under full suppression with crews utilizing approved tools within the Wilderness Study Area. The objectives are to minimize the acreage burned in primary and general Sage grouse habitats, protect identified cultural and historic resources, and prevent the fire from spreading into adjacent jurisdictions and populated areas.

Gusty winds, high temperatures, and low humidity (10-15%) are contributing to challenging fire conditions.

Crews are focusing on using direct and indirect tactics supported by aircraft to limit the fire’s spread to the north and east. They are also working to reinforce the fire’s southern and western flanks to prevent further expansion.
