SPI Reopens Forestlands for Recreation, Keeps Some Areas Closed for Fire Recovery

SHARE NOW

As of Nov. 1, Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) has reopened most of its California forestlands for recreation, while keeping certain areas closed to ensure safety in regions impacted by recent wildfires. These closures will allow crews to focus on recovery work, including reforestation and restoration.

SPI’s policy allows public access to activities like hunting, though some restrictions remain in place. Overnight camping, campfires, and smoking are prohibited, and motorized access is limited in many areas to protect resources and maintain safety.

Alongside the wildfire-related closures, some additional forest areas will stay closed for active operations, existing leases, and wildlife protection. SPI encourages visitors to check their website for the latest on access rules and restrictions.

Anyone with questions about closed areas can reach SPI’s California Public Recreation Hotline at 530-378-8274. For more information, visit their Recreation Access page.
