Significant strides have been achieved in enhancing water storage capacity for Loyalton Pines and the adjacent rural farms, a crucial measure for heightened fire protection.
In a comprehensive two-decade-long capital improvement initiative, the Sierra County Board of Supervisors recognized the urgent need to fortify fire suppression capabilities in the Loyalton Pines area. Consequently, they approved establishing a rapid water replenishment facility for firefighting apparatus for the Central Valley.
Funded by the Fire District and executed by the county, a 40-acre county-owned site situated at Fillippini Rd and Hwy 49 has been developed, utilizing the support of a non-potable artesian well. This initiative is poised to significantly bolster the fire protection measures for local ranches and Loyalton Pines.
Rick Joy of Joy Engineering generously donated two water storage tanks, while The Paul Roen Company contributed a Helicopter dunk tank to the site.
As the year comes to a close, the site is nearing completion, with both underground water tanks fully operational and ready to provide a year-round water source for central Sierra Valley. Additionally, the two above-ground tanks will be filled during the warmer months, resulting in a combined capacity of 40,000 gallons of replenishable water, crucial for supporting firefighting efforts.
