Caltrans began preliminary tree work for the Chester Causeway Rehabilitation Project along State Route 36 in Lassen and Plumas Counties. The project includes multiple locations from Melissa Avenue in Chester to just east of Red River Canal in Westwood. Hat Creek Construction & Materials Inc. and North Region Construction will conduct the work.
The project will rehabilitate pavement along SR36 in both counties. Work includes reconstruction of the full depth of the existing roadway in some sections, as well as shoulder expansion to 8 feet. Elsewhere, work includes roadway milling and overlay, including extending shoulder width to 4 feet. In addition, the work includes guardrail replacement, culvert work, rumble strips and signage.
Traffic control is in effect Monday through Friday from dawn to dusk. Caltrans warns motorists to expect delays up to 15 minutes on SR36. Officials expect preliminary tree work and delays to end by mid-February.
This $49.8 million project includes 170 working days. Most nights will require traffic control. Officials expect construction to begin in earnest this spring and through the summer as weather permits.
