Golden State Natural Resources (GSNR) has released a Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for its Forest Resiliency Demonstration Project, now open for public review until December 23, 2024. This report is a key part of making sure the project complies with environmental laws and identifies any potential impacts, with plans to address them.

The project aims to improve forest health and reduce wildfire risks by using low-value forest materials—like brush, small trees, and deadwood—gathered from forest clean-up and restoration efforts. The materials will be processed into wood pellets at two new facilities: one in Tuolumne County, in the foothills of the Central Sierra Nevada Mountain range, and another in the Modoc Plateau in Lassen County.

The report assesses the project’s environmental impacts and details ways to minimize or prevent harm. It also explains how the wood pellets will be transported by rail to the Port of Stockton before being shipped internationally.

You’re encouraged to review the report and share your thoughts or concerns. You can find the report and instructions for submitting feedback on GSNR’s website. This is your chance to give input before the final report is completed.
