Plumas supervisors will tackle two major topics of interest for the county at tomorrow’s board meeting; Dame Shirley Plaza and the Eastern Plumas Fire Protection District.
Dame Shirley Plaza was selected as the site for the new courthouse in Quincy per the state, yet the project has gained strong opposition from the community and local businesses. The board will only have the power to offer a letter to support or of none of the new courthouse placement in Dame Shirley Plaza, with the final say lying in the hands of the Judicial Council.
Following this discussion will be the Eastern Plumas Rural Fire Protection District. The district operating out of Portola lacked enough volunteers to offer adequate emergency response and suspended its operations in late June, relying on mutual aid. Though earlier this month, to bolster emergency response across Eastern Plumas County, the board approved a special election slated for this November on the new Beckwourth Peak Fire Protection District, a consolidation of the existing smaller districts into one.
The supervisors meet at 10 am in the Quincy Courthouse tomorrow, August 1st.
