Starting tomorrow, Friday, July 12, the Plumas National Forest will implement Stage 2 Fire Restrictions due to continued hot and dry weather conditions. With the recent increase in fire danger, this move aims to prevent wildfires and protect the forest and surrounding communities.
This weekend’s forecast predicts ongoing heat advisories, excessive heat warnings, and a heightened risk of strong, gusty winds, which can quickly spread fires.
Under the new restrictions, campfires are only allowed in specific designated recreation sites with a campground host and in established campfire rings. You can find these sites listed in Exhibit A of the closure order.
Smoking is permitted only within an enclosed vehicle or building, at one of the designated recreation sites listed in Exhibit A, or in an area at least 3 feet in diameter that is completely clear of all flammable material.
Additionally, internal combustion engines, such as vehicles and generators, may only be used on designated roads and trails. Boat engines on the water are exempt from this restriction.
Chainsaw use for firewood is still allowed, but woodcutters are expected to minimize operations off designated roads and trails. Woodcutters must check the Woodcutting Status daily by calling 1-800-847-7766. For the latest Plumas National Forest firewood cutting program information, please visit [the Forest Service website](https://www.fs.usda.gov/…/passes-permits/forestproducts).
