Plumas County’s Board of Supervisors approved a 30-year contract with ENGIE Services U.S. on March 19 to address energy inefficiencies in county-owned facilities.

The contract is projected to save the county just over $130,000 annually, totaling $4.8 million over its duration. ENGIE’s proposal includes various improvements, such as replacing outdated HVAC systems, installing LED lighting, and implementing solar energy solutions.

The project looks to reduce energy costs, with potential savings of over 25% on electricity bills and a decrease in carbon emissions equivalent to removing 131 cars from the roads annually.

Financing details, including the county’s contribution of $1 million, are yet to be finalized, and a presentation is scheduled for this month. If financing is not approved, the contract will become void at no cost to the county.
