The Warner Mountain Ranger District of the Modoc National Forest is proposing the Bear Soup Forest Health Project.  The project is being planned for 11,920 acres north of Jess Valley and west of the Warner Mountain Wilderness. The purpose of the project is to improve forest health and resistance to insects, disease, and drought: increase resiliency to wildfires; improve safety in the wildland-urban interface; and improve the health and functionality of aspen stands and wet meadows.  Proposed activities include thinning, fuels treatments, reforestation, aspen enhancement, wet meadow restoration, fuel breaks, plantation maintenance, wildlife habitat improvement, and whitebark pine restoration.

If you are an American citizen affected by or interested in this project, the Modoc National Forest invites your participation in its development through a process called “scoping.” For further details, including information about how you can offer information and comments, please contact the acting East Zone Planner by email at [email protected] or by phone at (530) 299-3215 for more information.
