Camping season is approaching, and Modoc National Forest has implemented a forest order to promote responsible recreation and protect its natural resources. Effective from midnight on April 29, 2025, camping activities will be restricted until April 29, 2027. These measures aim to prevent long-term or semi-permanent occupancy on national forest service lands.
Key regulations for camping in Modoc National Forest include:
- Developed Campgrounds: Camping is limited to a maximum of 14 days per calendar year in any single developed campground.
- Undeveloped Campgrounds: Camping is restricted to 14 days within a single Ranger District and 28 days total in undeveloped sites throughout the forest in a calendar year.
Exemptions to this order include:
- Individuals holding a Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48, which allows for specific exemptions from these restrictions.
- Federal, State, or local officers and members of organized rescue or firefighting forces while performing official duties.
