The Modoc County Sheriff’s K-9 Association held its annual fundraising dinner Saturday night, drawing a strong turnout from community members, supporters, and law enforcement personnel. The event was considered a success by organizers, thanks in part to the many generous donors, participants, and volunteers who contributed their time and resources.
The nonprofit organization, founded to support the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, relies entirely on local donations to fund the care, training, and equipment for its dogs. Since its creation in 2014, the K-9 unit has grown to include three dogs—Jax, Gnash, and Hogle—each with specialized training in areas such as search and rescue, narcotics detection, article searches, and protection work.
The association’s board of directors includes Scott Swasey, Brad Williams, Jean Atkins, Chris Porter, Val Flournoy, Terry Kelly, Ken Simon, Sierra McLaughlin, Renae Sweet, and Liz Hallmark, all of whom were recognized during the evening for their continued service and dedication to the program.
The festivities kicked off at 5:00 p.m. with cocktails and a buzzing silent auction, where attendees browsed an impressive lineup of donated goods and services. By 6:00 p.m., the room had filled with anticipation as guests settled in for a hearty dinner, door prizes, and a warm welcome from event organizers and local officials.
At 7:00 p.m., the live auction took center stage—bringing fierce but friendly bidding for standout items including collectable military rifles from the Paul Armstrong Estate, Custom Henry Golden Boy rifle with the Modoc Sheriff logo, and a wide array of getaway packages and exclusive experiences.
Among the most sought-after packages were:
- A private wine tasting tour
- “Taste of Modoc” fine dining experience
- Golf outings and spa stays in Reno
- A $1,500 Les Schwab Tire voucher
- Movie night bundles, hotel getaways, and more
Donations to the Modoc County Sheriff’s K-9 Association help cover the cost of dog food, veterinary care, training, and gear. All funds remain in the county and go directly toward maintaining the K-9 program.
