A log truck accident on State Route 70 east of Mount Tomba Road sent a driver to the hospital Wednesday morning after the vehicle veered off the roadway and down a steep embankment.
The incident occurred around 11:39 a.m. when Garrett Taylor, the driver of an eastbound Peterbilt log truck, lost control, causing the truck to drift off the right side of the road and descend more than 200 feet down a steep embankment. Remarkably, Taylor was able to exit the vehicle and make his way back to the roadway, where he flagged down passing motorists for help.
Taylor was transported by CareFlight to Renown Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.
Traffic on State Route 70 was impacted for several hours as crews worked to retrieve the vehicle from the embankment. Further details on the incident are expected as the investigation continues.
