Motorists traveling on State Route (SR) 89 along Lake Almanor should plan for short delays through the Labor Day weekend through the Almanor West Pavement Rehabilitation Project limits.
The project includes rehabilitating that segment of SR 89 using Full Depth Reclamation-Foamed Asphalt (FDR-FA) and full reconstruction strategies. Replacing and upgrading worn, failing, or functionally obsolete highway appurtenances. Rehabilitate existing drainage facilities. Upgrading guardrail throughout the project to address deficiencies. Upgrading the Clear Recover Zone where feasible. Construction of a Class 1 multi-use path along a portion of the roadway. Also included is the addition of new fiber-optic conduit and cable along SR 89, between the road shoulder and the right of way line.
Traffic impacts are expected as follows:
- Labor Day Weekend: 10-minute delays with 24-hour traffic control while the roadway is unpaved.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and consider alternate routes when possible. Travelers should also reduce speeds through the work zone and remain alert for construction personnel and equipment.
This $47.1 million project includes 160 working days, with all working days requiring traffic control. Construction is projected to be finished in 2027, pending weather.
