The Lassen National Forest, after several years, has finally obtained funding to complete the much-anticipated Almanor Toilet Replacement Project, set to begin on July 31. The project will focus on upgrading restroom facilities at the North and South campgrounds. The renovation work will cause temporary closures at both campgrounds.

The project has been funded by the Great American Outdoors Act of 2021. Janie Ackley, Forest Recreation Program Manager, says, “These funds allow the Forest Service to continue upgrades to trails and campgrounds, to provide enjoyment and increased access to many of the public’s favorite places.”

The Almanor Toilet Replacement Project will be carried out in two phases, starting with the temporary closure of Almanor South campground on July 31st, expected to last about two weeks. Then the project will move to Almanor North campground for another two weeks. Once the renovations are complete, the campgrounds will reopen to the public.

The Forest Service says to remain cautious as you will encounter increased vehicle traffic and the presence of heavy equipment in the area. Forest management assures that access to the beach and boat launch will remain unaffected, but be vigilant while traveling to the lake.

You can use the nearby restrooms at the Lake Almanor Boat Launch for restroom facilities during the temporary closures.
