The Lassen National Forest in the Almanor Ranger District for continued Dixie Fire Restoration work, three miles of the Lake Almanor Recreation Trail, will be closed through October.

The Forest Service says the next phase of the Boardwalk Service Contract timber removal project has begun around the Lake Almanor West community on the lake’s west shore. This will close the stretch of trail that runs between this area.

Due to the fire, remaining burnt timber and deep root holes continue to pose significant safety hazards, and removing these trees is crucial to ensure the safety of visitors and reduce the risk of future fuel loadings. Russell Nickerson, District Ranger of the Almanor Ranger District, emphasizes the importance of this project, stating, “This marks the initial step in our journey to restore recreation opportunities in the Almanor Ranger District. He added, “In ongoing reforestation efforts, the district will also focus on tree planting and restoring facilities within the area.”

You can also plan to increase Noise while machines are running; this is expected between 5:00 A.M. – and 4:00 P.M. and will vary as weather conditions become hotter and drier.

If traveling through the area, be aware of extra vehicle traffic and heavy equipment for cutting, processing, and decking of cut timber in the area. You can access the Lake Almanor Recreation Trail from the forest service Dyer View or PG&E Rocky Point.

Work is expected to be completed by October 31st.
