Lassen Volcanic National Park Partial Re-Opens as Park Fire Subdues

Portions of the Lassen Volcanic National Park have reopened as progress is made on the Park Fire.

Evacuation warnings and orders have been lifted near the Volcanic Park, as the Park Fire quiets down, Park officials have announced areas previously threatened by the flames opened this Saturdya.

Officials also note that while Highway 89 through the park is open to vehicles from the NW entry at Manzanita Lake to the parking lot at Devastated area, The rest of the highway will only be open to those on foot or bikes up to Summit Lake.

Evacuation warnings and orders are still in place in the southwestern part of the park from Summit Lake preventing through access.

Butte Lake, Juniper Lake, and Warner Valley in the park will remain closed until normal operations resume. The standard $30 entrance fee applies, but you should expect limited services. The Loomis Museum will be open Saturday through Tuesday, 10 am – 4 pm, and the Lassen Association store and Manzanita Lake Camper Store will resume operations. Manzanita Lake Campground will reopen for reservations on August 26, but fires and charcoal grills are prohibited. Some hiking trails are open, but backcountry camping and certain trails like Bumpass Hell remain closed.

As park staff return to the park, you are reminded that although the fire did not enter the boundaries of the park, there is still a fire threat to the South anf in the communities of Mineral and Mill Creek. The areas that are reopening are deemed safe from fire threat, yet you may encounter periods of smoke and poor air quality if visiting.
