Lassen Supervisors scoff at Plumas National Forest efforts to reforest the now blackened landscape in the wake of recent wildfires.
Supervisor Albaugh directed the question as to how many acres have been completed to Beckwourth District Ranger Mike Rahe during the board’s August 22nd meeting, to which he replied that a mere 1200 trees were planted.
Rahe routinely joins the Supervisor’s monthly meetings to provide updates on the efforts and work being completed in his own initiative to strengthen the relationship between the counties and build back trust following multiple years of Plumas Ntl Forest land fires burning across the county boundaries. Although his updates have been welcomed, even County Administrator Richard Egan has stated frankly he would rather not receive the monthly visits when such little progress occurs.
Yet to Rahe’s defense, he shares the forest service has focused its efforts on bolstering communities’ resilience through fuel reduction efforts rather than reforestation largely through a new multi-million dollar initiative, the Protect Communities Project.
