Deb Bumpus will retire after 33 years as the Lassen National Forest Supervisor.

July 31st will mark her last day as Supervisor. Her career began on January 13, 1991, as a Wildlife Biologist in the Plumas National Forest and spanned various roles across several national forests, including key positions such as Regional Assistant Threatened and Endangered Species Program Manager and Ecosystem Staff Officer.

Bumpus has served as the Forest Supervisor of Lassen National Forest since August 2019, leading significant initiatives like the growth of Lassen partners, vegetation and fuels reduction projects, and a long-term management agreement with Lassen College’s Foundation for campgrounds at Eagle Lake.

Throughout her career, Bumpus has been recognized for her dedication to public service, her leadership during challenging times such as the 2021 Dixie Fire, and her commitment to building relationships with local communities, tribal neighbors, and various partners. She plans to remain in the Susanville area post-retirement, commenting that she will “enjoy not working for a while” but will continue her involvement with the Forest Service’s International Programs Watershed Seminar held annually in Arizona.

Forest Engineer Travis Stewart will serve as Acting Forest Supervisor until a temporary replacement is assigned by the end of August.
