Chief Ewing, a lifelong resident of Lassen County, brings a wealth of experience to his role, commencing his remarkable 35-year career at the age of 14 as an Explorer with the Susanville Fire Department.

Chief Ewing’s dedication to community service is evident, having volunteered for 24 years with the Susanville Fire Department. His journey with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF) began in 1992, right after high school, as a seasonal firefighter stationed at Westwood, Susanville, and Grasshopper.

Over the years, Chief Ewing’s commitment and expertise led to successive promotions within the CDF. In 1999, he earned the rank of Fire Apparatus Engineer, serving at Susanville, Grasshopper, and Bieber Stations. His leadership skills were further recognized in 2002 when he was promoted to Fire Captain, with assignments at Alturas, Deersprings, Devils Garden Conservation Camp, and the Susanville Interagency Fire Center.

Chief Ewing continued his ascent through the ranks, reaching Battalion Chief status in 2012. In this role, he oversaw the Susanville Interagency Fire Center and later took charge of the Lassen County Office of Emergency Services. In 2018, Chief Ewing’s responsibilities expanded as he assumed the position of Assistant Chief of Administration stationed at Susanville Headquarters.

Currently, Chief Ewing holds critical roles as the Lassen County Fire Warden, Director of the Lassen County Office of Emergency Services, and Lassen Operational Area Fire Rescue Coordinator.
