There is a fire watch in effect on Wednesday for the possibility of overnight storms in Lassen, Plumas, Sierra valley, and parts of NW Nevada. There is potential for an abundance of lightning strikes on dry fuels, and the risk of wildfire is high as winds are also expected to top 50 mph in some areas. Wetter storms are expected by Thursday. You are advised to avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry landscapes, including target shooting, yard work, and campfires. If you are in a burn scar area be prepared for flash flooding if storms produce heavy rainfall. Have a plan in place. Strong outflow winds from these storms may also produce thick dust in the air and reduce driving visibility. Storms are expected to last through this weekend.
