Lassen National Forest Fire specialists have been gearing up for a series of prescribed burn projects spanning all three districts.
Operations have commenced on the ground, with weather conditions closely monitored.

A range of prescribed fire projects will cover diverse locations, This includes 3000 acres of pile burns, mainly in the Dixie Fire area, the Almanor Basin Underburn (around 800 acres south of West Shore and about 1,800 acres in Warner Valley), the Front Country Underburn (approximately 500 acres near Panther Springs), the North 49 Prescribed Fire Project (encompassing around 400 acres near Ashpan Snowmobile Park and roughly 320 acres along Manzanita Chutes on Forest Service Road-17), the Eastside Underburn (encompassing about 2,000 acres in the Halls Flat to Hat Creek Rim area near Jelly Springs), the Bailey Underburn (covering roughly 1,700 acres two miles east of Hwy 44 on Forest Service Road-21 and south of Pine Creek Valley), and the Signal Underburn (around 2,000 acres two miles north of Spaulding on County RD 105 in the Dow Butte area).

To keep you informed on where operations are taking place, the Forest Service will place signs on roads likely to be affected as work progresses in each project area this season. Weather conditions are expected to feature below-average temperatures with occasional precipitation as the fall cooling trend sets in.

While initial fire activity is anticipated to be low to moderate during the early burn periods, smoke impacts are expected during the day, as well as in the early morning and late evening when smoke settles into valleys and low-lying areas. You are urged to exercise caution while traveling through these areas and reduce speed for the safety of firefighters and the public.
