Supportive affordable housing Developer Danco Pulls Out of Affordable Housing Project at Travel Inn, on Main street.
The company has decided to withdraw its proposal to convert the now hotel due to a short project timeline. Barbara Longo, Lassen County’s Health and Social Services Director, made the Lassen Supervisors board aware of the decision during their July 25th meeting. However, ColWest Investments will be proceeding with an application for a 3 million dollar project through the Homekey Program. Converting 560 Hospital Lane near Diamond View Middle School Into an expanded 15-unit housing complex. 10 of which will be dedicated to at-risk youth, with the additional 5 to potentially house a general population of those at-risk of homelessness.
Melanie Westbrook, co-owner of ColWest Investments, assured the board they are confident they can complete the project within the turnaround time as they are currently completing escrow on the property, have obtained CEQA exemption, and have obtained various permits with the city. The application for the Homekey program is due back to the state this Friday, which the board unanimously approved.
Longo said HSS is excited to partner with the project, sharing she believes this is a “fantastic opportunity for Lassen County.”
