Concerns are growing over the proposed reopening of the Engels and Superior Mines by US Copper Corp, a Toronto-based company.
Since submitting an application nearly a year ago, significant developments have occurred. Plumas County has released an official staff report, followed by intense zoning administration meetings. Additionally, the county has enlisted Best, Best, and Krieger as legal consultants addressing concerns over the validity of mining rights. Meanwhile, the Feather River Watershed Alliance, an environmental group based in Indian Valley, has emerged, opposing the proposal due to concerns about health and environmental impacts on the Feather River watershed.
According to the US Copper website, the Moonlight project is described as a large open pit mine that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with on-site processing.
While US Copper Corp argues that the project could bring substantial economic benefits, opposition persists.
