Child sex offender Robert Michael Arellano has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for his crimes spanning two states.

The Lassen County District Attorney’s office revealed that Arellano, 37, faced prosecution in Montana in 2021 for sexual offenses against a minor. During the investigation, it was discovered that another child from Lassen County, California, was involved in the crimes.

The Montana prosecutor’s office forwarded this aspect of the case to the Lassen County DA’s office, prompting a reinvestigation. The Lassen County Investigations unit, with the assistance of the Montana prosecutor’s office, conducted a new interview with the minor, confirming the occurrence of child sexual abuse.

As a result, the Lassen County District Attorney pressed charges against Arellano and issued a warrant for his arrest, pending the resolution of his case in Montana. In December 2021, Arellano was convicted for his crimes in Montana and subsequently sentenced in May 2022. He became eligible for extradition back to California in December 2022 and pleaded guilty to the Lassen County crimes in May.

The DA’s office has announced that Arellano will be extradited to Montana to serve his sentence there.
