Thursday, CAL FIRE carried out a prescribed burn in the Dakin Unit of the Honey Lake Wildlife Area. The day began with a briefing conducted by Lassen Modoc Unit personnel to review the plan, cover safety information, and allow officials from the Department of Fish and Wildlife to explain the purpose of the burn and its benefits to the area. This planned burn will return vital nutrients to the soil in preparation for next year’s planting. The vegetation to be planted will help create nesting areas for birds and provide habitat for other wildlife in the area.
