Today marks the scheduled arraignment of a Plumas County sheriff’s dispatcher who faces three felony charges related to embezzlement from two accounts, including the Needy Kids Fund. District Attorney David Hollister has formally pressed charges against 39-year-old Cassandra Beth Lavley from Quincy.

Lavley stands accused of embezzling over $20,000 from the Sheriff’s Employees Association’s “General Account” and the “Needy Kids Account,” funds intended to provide gifts for underprivileged children during Christmas.

According to the DA’s report, Lavley allegedly spent the misappropriated funds on extravagant purchases such as concert tickets, designer clothes, furniture, electronics, alcohol, and meals. The alleged crimes took place between 2022 and 2023 during Lavley’s tenure as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Plumas County Sheriff’s Employee’s Association.

Pending her arraignment today, Lavley remains detained in a correctional facility outside Plumas County, with bail set at $50,000. Additionally, the judge has ordered scrutiny of the bail’s source to ensure its legality.
