A $50,000 Grant is set to Boost Traffic Safety in Susanville

The Susanville Police Department was awarded the grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to enhance its traffic enforcement and education efforts. This funding will support the department’s initiatives through September 2025, focusing on reducing serious injuries and fatalities.

Public Safety Chief Bollinger expressed gratitude for the grant, stating “By increasing enforcement of traffic laws and focusing on high-risk areas, [the department] aims to reduce dangerous driving behaviors, prevent crashes, and make…roads safer for everyone.”

Here’s how the grant will impact local roads:
You’ll see Increased patrols targeting impaired drivers to keep intoxicated individuals off the road.
Officers will enforce California’s hands-free cell phone law, ensuring drivers stay focused on the road.
Special operations will aim to safeguard people biking or walking by addressing risky driver behaviors.
You can Expect a focus on common crash causes like speeding, running stop signs or red lights, and improper turning.

In addition, The department will offer presentations on traffic safety issues such as impaired and distracted driving, speeding, and pedestrian safety.

The grant also funds officer training programs like Standard Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) and Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) to sharpen enforcement skills.

This initiative aims to create safer roads and reduce accidents.
